When you have kids, “mealtime” takes on a whole new meaning. Perhaps your most peaceful and enjoyable times of day quite possibly become messy, loud and fiercely impossible when it comes to getting any of the little humans to eat anything.
Over the past 2.5 years, I have discovered a few tools that make mealtime with babies and toddlers just a bit easier and manageable, and I’m sharing them with you! So here goes.
1. The Boon Flair High Chair
We absolutely love this highchair. Although you can’t put a little baby in it because the back is fairly straight, we’ve never found that to be an issue. We love that it’s on wheels, making meal times from the kitchen to the dining room an easy transition. The seat pad also wipes down so easily because it’s not fabric. It’s super transitional with ages as well, since the height can be adjusted. An older toddler could totally sit in it just pulled up to the table without the tray.
2. OXO TOT on the go spoon
We first got this spoon when Miri first started eating solids. It’s great because it’s so easily transportable for mealtimes at restaurants and at other people’s houses. I love that it comes with a case, because germs can be nasty sometimes! I found shape of the spoon to be perfect for a new eater.
3. Food pouches
I cannot begin to talk about how much I love fruit, vegetable and yogurt pouches for little kids. They’re great for on-the-go, mess-free eating AND it’s a way to sneak in those fruits and veggies because they taste good! I know, I’m sure some of you will say that there are chemicals and preservatives and there could be mold inside and I’m a horrible mother for giving them. And that’s fine. Y’all can go home and puree your own organic sweet potatoes that you grew in your organic garden on your farm — I’ll just take those 5 hours and go watch Netflix. Moving on!
4. Munchkin click lock straw cup
So I’ve been through A LOT of different sippy/straw cups in the last 2.5 years. Suffice it to say, I could make an entire post telling you why I DON’T like each cup. I don’t even like the Miracle 360 (gasp!) — it smells on the inside after a while. But I was just recommended these cups by Azi’s Feeding Therapist, who suggested I try them. And I really, really like them. Both of the kids have an easy time drinking out of them, and they are pretty much leak proof. I’ve yet to find one that absolutely NEVER leaks. But this one is close to perfection. I love that the straw comes apart into 3 pieces for thorough and easy cleaning.
5. Dr. Brown’s Formula Pitcher
If you’re a formula mom, you MUST get this pitcher. Since formula can be kept open and unused in the fridge for 24 hours, you can make enough for one day of formula, and just pour it out of the pitcher, instead of using the powder every time. It’s genius. There are no clumps, no fuss. And these last. Don’t ask. Just do it.
OK — I know I said 5, but here are some honorable mentions:
