A playroom is bound to get messy but it’s a space that is supposed to spark joy, imagination, and creativity. Playrooms are MEANT to be played in! But as a designated space for kids, clutter is bound to build up which can be overwhelming to both you and your kids. Every few months, I like to do a refresh of the kids’ playroom to help keep it organized and optimize any unused space. I also use this time as an opportunity to sell or donate any toys that the kids don’t use anymore. If getting your playroom organized is on your list of things to do this season, you’re in luck! I’m sharing some of my best playroom organization tips to make organizing your kids space easier.
Playroom Organization Tips
Everything Should Have an (Accessible) Home
One of my number one tips for keeping clutter under control in your playroom, everything has to have a home. But here’s the thing: that home can’t be too big.
If you utilize big, deep bins to keep toys organized, the likely hood of them being dumped out every time your kids are looking for something is extremely high. To help avoid this, utilize bins that are shallow and easily accessible. This will help make looking for specific toys and gadgets so much easier.
Consider Toy Rotation
If you have extra space to store toys, consider doing a toy rotation. This will ensure your kids actually play with their toys and when you do rotate them out, it’ll feel like they just got brand-new toys! I like to do this with toys that are similar, are part of a set, or are toys I don’t want the kids playing with all the time.
Store Art Supplies in Easy-to-Move Storage
When it comes to arts and crafts, I want my kids to be able to easily be able to create in both their playroom and bring out into the kitchen to craft together as a family. Having art supplies in easy-to-move storage also allows me to put supplies up out of reach if I don’t want them painting unsupervised!
Utilize Wall Space for Extra Storage
If you have extra wall space, use it for storage! Utilize open shelving to store items that are used as much or items that are hard to store in bins, such as extra plates, cups, and pans for a play kitchen. You can also style these shelves with photos so they’re not as storage-focused.
