Thank you so much to Naturepedic for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Transitioning from a crib to a big kid bed is not always the easiest task. But thanks to Naturepedic, Azi got the big boy bed of his dreams, and it was actually the best thing we’ve done for his nighttime sleep.
Prior to moving Azi to a big boy bed, he was waking up 2-3 times in the middle of the night (yes, when he was 2 years old!), screaming and crying for us. It was REALLY disruptive to our sleep, as you can imagine.
From the moment we moved him to his new Naturepedic Verse Organic Kid Mattress, he’s been sleeping better. We were already familiar with Naturepedic mattresses before Azi got his big boy bed. I chose Naturepedic for the kids’ crib mattresses because I only want the best for my babies. The organic and high-quality mattresses ensured a comfort without chemicals sleep for my babies, during the time when they spent most of their lives lying on a crib mattress.
It was a no-brainer, when we needed to get him a big boy mattress, that we would turn to Naturepedic. The Verse Organic mattress is one of a kind. It’s made up of 5 layers of natural comfort, and it works great for younger kids as well as older kids. As a mom who tries to be careful about what my kids eat, wear and even what they use to wash their hair, it was obvious that I’d only choose the best for their mattresses too.
We got lucky, but the transition to big boy bed isn’t always so easy…
Here are some tips for all of the parents who may be struggling with the big move:
- If you have littles who are abusing their new freedom and are magically appearing in your room at all hours of the night, I highly recommend the LittleHippo version of the “Ok to wake” clock. It takes a few nights for them to understand, but it has really helped us!
- Lay out the rules VERY explicitly. Give your kids some very basic, but easy to understand rules about their new room and independence. FOR EXAMPLE:
- “If you have to go potty, you can go, but then you have to go right back to your room. If you need my help you can call me, but that’s it.”
- “Mommy doesn’t talk to you after we say goodnight.” This helps avoid the little “mooommmmyyyy” that will inevitably come from the top of the stairs after lights out. When this happens, be a broken record, “I will talk to you in the morning. We don’t talk after bedtime.”
- “Stay in your room until your clock turns green.” See #1 for details.
- Remove any toys or other things that are in your child’s room that you don’t want them playing with after bedtime. Don’t give them the opportunity to fail.
- Allow them to read a book in bed if they don’t want to go to sleep.
- Give your child a new stuffed animal and special bedding to celebrate their big milestone.
- Sticker charts for sleeping through the night and staying in bed can be helpful as well.

After all of my hard work with Azi, I got the biggest surprise of the year!
I had been experiencing some serious back and neck pain due to a “too soft” mattress. Naturepedic generously offered to gift Adam and me a new Naturepedic EOS Classic Mattress, and it is GOALS. The EOS Series is customizable to your firmness liking. We got the regular firm, as it seemed like that was the issue with my old mattress. I absolutely love it. It’s really a dream to sleep on…even when I have some company.
Thank you Naturepedic for helping all of us sleep more soundly at night. And, hopefully, with some new tips under your tool belt, your family will be sleeping soundly soon too. Use code: SWEETDREAMS for Free Shipping, when you order mattresses for the entire family on the Naturepedic website. Sweet dreams!
