So technically, the Jewish New Year is Rosh Hashanah, which was back in September.
However,
I don’t think there’s ever not a good time to re-evaluate and set goals for ourselves. I’ve never been so into the word “resolutions”. I kind of feel like it’s an old word, and it sounds super serious. If we set S.M.A.R.T. goals for ourselves, it gives us something to work toward every day, and it doesn’t limit us to something we work on only in the first week of January (like most NY’s resolutions are).
I also think that sharing our goals with others can help keep us accountable. Whether it’s health goals or work goals, it’s always good to have at least one other person to share them with, to help you stay on track.
This year, I’d like to share some of my goals with you.
I hope you’ll help keep me accountable. And I’d love to keep you accountable, too! Please share your 2019 goals with me in the comments, and let’s all work together this coming year!
1. Find Balance.
There were many times in this past year when I felt pulled in too many directions at once. My biggest goal for the coming year is to try and find a happy balance between my business and my family.
A Glass of Goldwater is a huge part of my life, but my family always comes first. Since most of my business requires me to be on the computer and on my phone, it can be very hard to find that balance between doing activities with my family while documenting and spending time with just our family. No cameras, ifs, ands or buts about it.
I think other bloggers and social media influencers will agree, that we see our highest engagement (read: success) in our business when we share our personal lives with all of you — the good, the bad and the ugly. I’m almost always thinking about this community as I go through my days and when I do things with my family.
Obviously, this is both good and not-so-good. I don’t want my kids to only remember that mommy was on her phone all the time. I want them to know and remember me as a present mommy who is fun, caring and always there. Putting the fact that social media is my business aside, I consider this to be my number one struggle in today’s world of media addictions.
So, in the coming year, I am working to create real and tangible boundaries for myself, social media and my family.
How I plan to work toward this balance:
- Put my phone AWAY. No ifs, ands or buts, I plan to put my phone away for a certain period of time every day. I plan to start at 6 pm until after the kids are asleep (7ish), and I hope to increase the amount of time until I am offline from 4 pm until bedtime (7ish).
- Plan activities and outings that will only be shared with my family. Meaning, I may tell you about them before and after, but during the activity, I won’t have my phone out to document. I’ll be focusing on my family, and I know that you all can understand and appreciate that. Don’t worry! We’ll still have plenty of day-to-day and weekend outing coverage over on Instagram, but this is just something I am planning to work on at times.
I would love to know how you all balance social media in your everyday lives! It’s SO hard in this world of “if you didn’t post about it, did it even happen?”! Agreed?
Ok, so my next goal…
2. Get my health on track.
I won’t lie. It’s been really hard for me to focus on my health, really since I had Miri (yes that was 3 years ago). To be fair, I got pregnant again when Miri was 4 months old, and I’m kind of a ravenous pregnant lady with no self-control, so you can imagine how that went.
All joking aside, I’ll admit that food has definitely been a comfort to me. I give myself little treats to get through the day, and I chug Diet Coke like it’s my job. I’m definitely not going to stop having occasional treats and my daily Diet Coke (I don’t think…), but I am going to be more aware and intuitive about what and how much I’m eating.
Mental health is tied right in to my physical health as well. This year, I am focusing on ME. Me as a mom, me as a wife, me as an entrepreneur, me as a woman in her late 20’s just trying to have a good time. I hope to be able to focus on ME so that I can be the best mom, wife, boss-mom, friend, and community member that I can be. But to take care of others, I have to take care of myself first. It’s not selfish. It’s just the truth.
I want to be around (and active!) 20 years from now. And I know it’s much easier to start better habits when you’re younger. So here goes!
Any healthy snacking ideas? I’d love to hear!
3. Bring A Glass of Goldwater to new heights.
Does this statement confuse you? Yeah, it confuses me too. I’m not entirely sure if it means get more followers, cover more topics, work with more brands or start publishing content on different platforms. But while I won’t go into too much detail here, I do have BIG goals for 2019 for this community. Every business has goals — both monetary and KPI goals (Key Performance Indicator). And I am no different.
While the business aspect of A Glass of Goldwater is not THE most important part to me, nevertheless it is a business, and I have created goals that will allow me to continue to develop this beautiful Tribe we’ve created together, while being able to provide for my family.
So here we go, 2019!
I’m ready for you! A few BIG goals that I hope to work a toward a little bit every day of this coming year.
I believe that to be successful in meeting your goals, you have to be realistic. Set smaller milestones that work toward your bigger goals. It’s very hard to change habits. But if you take on a little bit at a time, it is much more likely that you’ll succeed. And you know what? It might take more than just one year to completely meet these goals. And that’s okay. But as long as we all work on ourselves, everyday and little by little, we are growing. And that is exactly what we are meant to be doing in this world.
I’m looking forward to another amazing year head. Get ready, because exciting things are coming. L’chaim! To health, happiness, and seeing everything for the good!
